How Great is Society’s Expectation?

On Friday June 20, 2014, this month’s Café Q discussion was brought to us by Louis van Amstel. Louis talked to us about “how great is society’s expectation is on us”, and how we can go about changing our lifestyles to ensure that we don’t burn out from stress or an overload of technology.

Considering around 42% of adults stated they were unhappy with their work/life, and more than half of adults have felt mentally or physically stressed in the past month alone, is there something we aren’t doing right?

In the modern world, communication is everywhere. We never have time to just be still and silent. This social and digital age brings 2/3 of adults to places such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. It’s these places that allow us to communicate with people from all over the world as well as those within closer vicinity. We are constantly surrounded by this ease of access and flood of information, but it is beginning to have some detrimental effects on work patterns and face-to-face communications. Because we don’t just sit and be silent, we have a higher chance of burning ourselves out.

Rest is very important in our casino online daily lives because it gives us a chance to refocus and recuperate from the day. The number one form of rest is said to be watching TV and movies (58%). But this begs the question, is watching TV and movies really resting? Other forms of relaxation could include time with God (21%), time spent alone (16%), time spent each day doing a recharge activity (12%) or time when electronics aren’t used (12%).

Considering rest online casino nbso should be such a vital part of our day, or even week, is there a better way that we can prepare and carry out our days so we can limit the amount of stress emitted and experienced? Yes, there is.

A concept called “PRESENT” is designed to incorporate all the important things into your day, as to ensure you can get the most out of your day, without letting it get the better of you.

PRESENT:

Pray

Make space for peace. The peace we can gain from taking the focus from ourselves to something greater (Psalm 29:1).

Read

Reading the bible gives you spiritual food. Don”t just read, study it. Reflect and investigate further to try and gain a deeper understanding of the word.

Express

Express thoughts about what”s going on inside. Perhaps write a journal or blog.

Schedule

Scan the coming day and see what might lie ahead. Plan some jobs for the day that are reasonable. Put the biggest job up first and remember to take breaks, but not near media.

Exercise

Doesn”t have to be arduous, just whatever suits you to get you moving. Could be as simple as a short walk.

Nourish

Do something healthy, nutritious and life giving; something just for you to relax.

Track

Take notice of what is going on throughout the day. Track what things worked and what things didn”t. Work these things into your planning stage for the next day etc. Build and learn from your mistakes and further develop a schedule/plan that works for you.

 

The PRESENT theory is important because it helps us sift through everything that is going on around us, and keep us focused on God. Although the ease of access coming with the modern age is convenient and heavily integrated, we need to remember to not let it get in the way of our relationship with God.
